PRESERVING THE PAST ONE HEADLINE AT A TIME

Wordless Wednesday: The Kelley Sisters On A Double Date

The Kelley Sisters L to R Tiney Estella ,unknown friend & Leila Myrtle, Circa 1910

L to R: My great grand aunt Tinnie “Tiny”, unknown friend and my great-grandmother Myrtle, Circa 1910

Leila Myrtle Kelley with an unknown friend, Circa 1910

Myrtle Kelley and friend, Circa 1910

These two photos are the only images of my great-grandmother Myrtle as a young woman.  The Kelley family lived  out in the country in Geneva, Alabama.  Because the sisters were dressed in their “Sunday best”, I’m assuming they were on a date or this was after a church service.

I like the hairstyles and  clothing from this era.

  1. I love Myrtle’s face in the first photo. It’s almost like she is saying “what’s with this guy?”

  2. What’s behind Myrtle’s dress? Is it a fan or part of the dress? And what is Tinnie planning to do with that log in her hand?
