PRESERVING THE PAST ONE HEADLINE AT A TIME

Wordless Wednesday: The Fielder-Hart Family in 1906

Soloman Frank Hart, Susie Vassar Fielder Hart and daughter, Susie Frank Hart, About 1906

Solomon Frank Hart, Susan “Susie” Vassar Fielder Hart and their daughter, Susie Frank Hart, about 1906

Susie is my second great-grand aunt; I think she looks so elegant in this image.  Isn’t it cute the way her daughter is holding her finger?  Through genealogy research, I’ve learned that Susie belongs to a group of family members that spans eight generations who have shared a form of the name Susannah.  It also includes my great-grandmother, her daughter (my great-aunt),  my mother and me.  I hope the name will continue to be used by future generations of the family.

It’s interesting to note that, until you started doing genealogy research, we were unaware various forms of the name Susannah were used for so many generations in our family.

8 generations is a long time! Susie junior looks very bored. What does she hold in her right hand?

The child was called Susie Frank. She was named after both of her parents; I’ve wondered if they used both names to differentiate between her and her mother. I’ve enlarged the photo and can’t tell exactly what’s in her hand. It appears to be a folded piece of paper.
