PRESERVING THE PAST ONE HEADLINE AT A TIME

The Wisdom of John Adams

The happiness of society is the end of goverment.” – John Adams

“Because power corrupts, society’s demands for moral authority and character increase as the importance of the position increases.” – John Adams

Our constitution was made only for a moral and religious people.  It is wholly inadequate to the goverment of any other.” - John Adams

Facts are stubborn things; and whatever may be our wishes, our inclinations, or the dictates of our passions, they cannot alter the state of facts and evidence.” – John Adams

Power always thinks it has a great soul and vast views beyond the comprehension of the weak.” – John Adams

Abuse of words has been the great instrument of sophistry and chicanery, of party, faction, and division of society.” – John Adams

There is danger from all men.  The only maxim of a free government ought to be to trust no man living with power to endanger the public liberty.” - John Adams

Mr. Adams is one of my favorite presidents.  He was a man ahead of his time.  His opinions are as relevant today as they were in the early days of this nation.  He understood that with great power comes great responsibility.

America is a divided nation now; it is not the same country I grew up in.  We are headed towards Socialism/Communism and it has failed everywhere it’s been tried.  Unless all Americans learn from history, we are doomed to repeat it.

During the past few days, I’ve read many comments at various online sites.  I’m surprised at the lack of knowledge about history and current events.   Several generations of young people have been shortchanged when it comes to being taught American history.   For the most part, they are being taught only the liberal’s point of view and learning about famous liberals in our nation’s history.  I know this for a fact because I’ve seen it firsthand.

Third graders in Georgia are taught about people generally associated with the left such as Franklin D. Roosevelt, Lyndon B. Johnson, Eleanor Roosevelt, Cesar Chavez and Thurgood Marshall.  Besides Paul Revere, no conservative or Republican was included for study during the third grade school year.  The curriculum should be balanced with an equal amount of historical people from both the left and the right.

No wonder the young people of America are so misguided, they are only being taught one viewpoint of our history with many essential people and important facts omitted.

    Great post!!

  2. If you think the US is heading towards socialism you haven’t experienced what is happening in the Netherlands yet (be glad). Actually, John Adams lived in Holland for a couple of years.

I’m concerned at the direction the USA is headed. Starting in 2013 we will be hit with more taxes (to fund Obamacare), many more intrusive government regulations and socialized medicine (Obamacare) takes full effect in 2014. Over 60% of our country didn’t want Obamacare, but it was forced on us by politicians who won’t be required to use it since they will have access to better private healthcare. The real stinker is Obamacare was implemented to cover the 15 million who didn’t have healthcare when they were better (& cheaper)solutions to fix our healthcare issues. To be honest, Obamacare is nothing more than a way for our government to have more control over our lives, get involved and have input in our personal healthcare decisions that should stay between us & our doctors and tax away more of our money. Half of our country thinks the solution to our problems is more government and free handouts. I’m for limited government, personal responsibility and to help those who truly need assistance, but those who can work should receive training for jobs and allow the private sector to create jobs. Government doesn’t create jobs. What’s going on in the Netherlands? I have an idea, but would like to hear from someone who lives there.
