Friend of Friends Friday – Runaway Slave from Russell County, Alabama in 1860

$200 Reward

Runaway or stolen from my plantation in Russell county, Ala., 30 miles south-west of Columbus, and 10 miles from the Mobile and Girard Rail Road, on the 20th of July last, my negro man John, 39 or 40 years old, dark complexion, about 5 feet 6 inches high, very short legs, long body, stout and heavily muscled, a little hard of hearing, rather thin visage, quite polite and reads tolerably well.  If not otherwise influenced, said negro will locate in some city.  If any white person has him carried off, and should be delivered to me with said negro, and sufficient evidence to convict of the crime, I will give the above reward, or I will give $50 for the delivery of the negro in any safe jail so I can get him.

Friend of Friends Friday – Ad for Runaway Slave named Frank

20 Dollars Reward

Runaway on the 28th December last, from the subscribers Plantation, in St. Luke’s Parish, South Carolina, a Negro fellow, about 30 years of age, is of a yellow complexion, a little pock pitted in the face, about 5 feet 10 or 11 inches high, very well made, had on when he went away, a blue coat, white breeches or overalls, is country born and speaks well, being very sensible.  He was purchased from Judge Heyward, his name is Frank, probably may alter his name.  The above reward will be paid, and all reasonable charges, for his safe delivery, either in Savannah Goal, or giving information to the Printers hereof, or at my plantation on the Oahacees, South Carolina.

Wm. G. Chadwick posts ad for Runaway Slave, Step

Ranaway

From the subscriber, on Saturday the 2d inst., a negro boy by the name of STEP, about 16 years old, very black, low and chunky about 5 feet high and weighs about 130 pounds.  I purchased him from Daniel Yarnell of Hamilton county, Tennessee, and it is likely he will attempt to get back to that place.  I will pay a reasonable reward for his apprehension and delivery to me, or his confinement in some safe jail so that I may recover him.  Address me at Sand Fort, Russell county, Ala.
