The Bachelor Girls at Doyle

Misses Ouida Anderson and Lucy Merritt entertained the Bachelor Girls at the ideal country home of Hon. Jos. S. Rogers last Saturday.

The lovely home with its spacious vine-clad verandas was very inviting, after the ride on the train.  Those present were Misses Sarah and Floyed Lowe, Sarah Jefferson, Mina Wooten, Martha Nelson, Nannie Merritt, James Walton, Mary White, Lucile Lowe and Lula McMichael.

Fruits were served and the music rendered by different girls added to the many charms of the morning, which so soon passed.

At twelve o’clock the guests were invited to the dining hall where a feast was spread and at such a place each bachelor could not resist the adage “Act” well your part.

In the afternoon different games were played.  The successful contestant was Miss Mina Wooten.  The prize was a beautiful vase.

The day passed as a dream and the train reminded the Bachelor Girls of Buena Vista.  Such pleasures are seldom found and we look forward to the time that we can realize the last words of the hospitable hostess, “When shall we meet here again.”

A Unique Entertainment

Miss Lula McMichael elegantly entertained the Bachelor Girls’ Club on the beautiful lawn at the home of Mr. J.E. Lowe Wednesday afternoon.  Miss Lula arranged a very unique entertainment which was decidedly new and original.  She had printed the names of the guests with letters so intermingled that it was puzzling to unravel.  Each name began with a Latin word by selecting letters composing the name thus, “Voce pear reo” had all the letters of Vera Cooper.  A prize was offered for the first solution of the puzzle.  Four home young ladies tied in winning the prize, and they divided the honors by voting it to Miss Susie Harvey and Miss Eva May Averett of Columbus.  Refreshments were served.

Dance at Woodhaven

According to www.buckhead.net, Robert Maddox sold Woodhaven and twenty acres of the surrounding property in 1963 to the State of Georgia.  The home was demolished and the Governor’s Mansion was built in its place.

To Miss Mary Gatins

This does sound like “an ideal Christmas party.” I imagine it was lovely with all the decorations and the 150 guests dressed to the nines!

SOCIETY

To Miss Mary Gatins

An ideal Christmas party was that at which Miss Louise Gay entertained last night in compliment to Miss Mary Gatins, of New York, who is having many attentions accorded her.  A hundred and fifty guests were present, and the entire lower floor of the hospitable home was thrown open for dancing.  The arched doors were hung with American smilax and wreathes of holly tied with streamers of crimson ribbons.  Mistletoe hung from the chandeliers and vases and bowls of red roses decorated the mantels and cabinets.

An elegant buffet supper was served at 11 o’clock, the guests served in groups at tables set on the first floor.

Miss Gay who beauty and grave have distinguished her in Atlanta society since her debut last winter, was a most charming hostess, and received her guests in the drawing room.  She wore pink crepe de chine fashioned in tucks and lace, and carried pink roses.

Miss Gatins was most attractive and fascinating in a ball gown of pink lisse and lace, and carried a shower bouquet of lilies of the valley.

Mrs. Gay, who assisted her daughter in the entertainment of the guests, wore pale gray panne satin and lace.

Mrs. Thomas B. Paine was beautiful in black tulle embroidered in silver.
