PRESERVING THE PAST ONE HEADLINE AT A TIME

Sentimental Sunday: The Layfield Sisters

Sisters Sue & Ambert Layfield, Circa late 1920s

Sue & Ambert Layfield, Circa late 1920s

This is a photo of my great-aunts Sue & Ambert Layfield.  At some point this image was part of Ambert’s scrapbook and this is her handwriting identifying the two of them.

In October 2000, I visited my Aunt Sue to interview her about the Layfield family.  She related a story about how she and Ambert had to wash dishes after supper every night.   One night Sue washed while Ambert dried; with nine people in the family, it took a while to finish the dishes.  Sue noticed there was a never-ending stack of dishes to be washed and realized her sister was getting more dishes out of the cabinets for her to wash!

I’ve always enjoyed seeing photos of sisters, especially when they are children.  In the near future, I plan to post some adorable images of sisters I’ve found at Flickr.
